College Mom 101
Wow, it has been another crazy few weeks for me. Two sundays ago I just went to church with my family and after that went to Home Depot. While I was at Home Depot the heel of my left foot started to get really sore. I have never felt pain like that anywhere on my foot before. By the time I got to my car I couldn't stand on my left foot at all. I went home and put ice on foot because the arch of my foot was swollen and my heel was extremely sore.
My son was so cute, he rushed to my side and asked me if I was okay. I really didn't feel like I was okay, but I had to show him that I would be okay and that there was nothing to worry about. So I told him thank you for asking and that I was fine. I was so touched when he said that he would sit by me because he wanted to make sure I was okay. I felt very blessed to have him as my son.
Well, as it turned out after seeing different doctors, they all confirmed that I had Plantar Faciitis (an inflammation of the ligament on the bottom of your foot). OUCH! That is all I can say. I had to stay off of my foot as much as possible and I had to elevate and ice my foot the first week. Then it started to feel better, so I started to walk on it more. Not good, the pain came back. But I iced it right away and rested completely.
So for any of you who do not want to ever feel this pain, please take care of your feet. I know it sounds funny, but it is true for everything. We need to take care of our bodies! If we show our kids that we know how to properly take care of our bodies, then they will hopefully acquire the same thinking and a better lifestyle. We are role models for our children!
Aloha College Mom--
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that we (parents) need to care for our bodies for two reasons. One, as you pointed out, is that we are their role models. We love our children and would do anything for them, but somethings they have to learn to do on their own. No one brushes their teenager's teeth for them! Two, if we treat ourselves with respect, our children treat us with respect too. Moms who turn themselves into doormats and sacrifice everything for their children can teach children to treat them as less worthy of respect, for if we do not respect ourselves, how can we expect others to?
As far as the plantar fasciitis, I heard about a treatment for pain on Hawaii public radio involving cold laser treatments. Supposedly it's very effective. My son had all 4 wisdom teeth removed and we have an appointment on Monday to see if that will help with the pain. If it works, I will let you know, as on their website one of the conditions that they treat is plantar fasciitis. Perhaps it would work for you.
